So, just to be clear, you are agreeing that Christmas is a bigger deal than Thanksgiving in the states?

Trundle

Have a word with yourself, mate. If I can get Goose to disagree with the statement, 'the sky is blue' are you going to come running to his defence?

Silly stalky person, Get a life. I can't even remember what it is I posted to upset you so much.

“from my experience the Yanks dont go in for christmas as much as we do over here - they're more about thanksgiving.”

You're bang on the money there, goose.

@Beat Freak

I cannot believe you would ask such an unreasonable question and seek advice that was OBVIOUSLY going to turn into a full blown four-day argument.

Hang your head in shame man.

FFS you lot, can we please get back to the main topic of the thread and tell me some things to do in Atlanta next Summer?

Re: New York at Christmas
Can you not read?

Pretty obvious I’m saying what I’ve said all along. Here it is again for you:

“from my experience the Yanks dont go in for christmas as much as we do over here - they're more about thanksgiving.”

And somehow you think that simple statement is “talking shit”.

Mental.

Blimey mate, it's taken you four days of arguing to clarify that. If you'd done so in the first place there'd have been no argument.

So, just to be clear, you are agreeing that Christmas is a bigger deal than Thanksgiving in the states?

goose 11:34 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
This is classic you.

I didn’t say Christmas wasn’t a big deal. You made that up.

It’s a big deal but not as big a deal as thanksgiving in my experience.
Christmas is a bigger deal here than it is in the US.

And somehow you chose to pick an argument with that.

Laughable.

Fucking hell, mate. You're all over the place. You're moving backwards faster than a monk from a crack-whore's cunt. If you talk shit, at least have the honesty to own it.

Re: New York at Christmas
Changed your tune again.
Last post was “Christmas isn't such a big deal” which is very different from what I said.

Also you’ll note I framed it as ‘in my experience” and yet you still decided to argue with it.

Like I said from the start, you choosing to argue with it is laughable.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 11:24 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
Goose

How does that materially differ from 'In the US Thanksgiving is bigger than Christmas'?

In your own time.

goose 10:58 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
Not what I said though was it?

My exact words:

“from my experience the Yanks dont go in for christmas as much as we do over here - they're more about thanksgiving.”

And you’ve wasted all this time trying to argue with that. Like I said right at the beginning - you’re laughable.

Re: New York at Christmas
Goose

Nobody has disputed that Thanksgiving is a massive pig-out. This doesn't support your contention that Christmas isn't such a big deal in the states.

Black Friday originated because Thanksgiving is such a zzzzz that people concentrate on the big one to follow.

goose 10:36 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
Yup it’s called ‘Black Friday’. Not sure if you’ve heard of it, very popular shopping day just after thanksgiving.

The stats were about popularity not moneymaking. Although stats also show that thanksgiving dinner is a bigger deal than Christmas dinner.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 10:31 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
Interestingly, the same company suggests that the favourite pastime on Thanksgiving is Christmas shopping.

Go figure, huh...

Whereas you seem interested in quoting surveys whose results add up to about 500%

What was the actual question asked, mate? Seeing as you quoted the results. It must have been quite vague to get April Fools Day involved.

Re: New York at Christmas
Since we're diverging into other US cities, can anyone recommend anything to do on a Summer weekend in Atlanta?

My only input into the opening question is that the one time I've been it was February and absolutely bloody freezing. Although NY has won an award today! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-63825214

When did I say you couldn’t use them?

You seem more interested in quoting song lyrics.

You quoted Statista, mate. Not me. I just pulled their figures apart.

Are they OK when it suits you and not OK when it doesn't?

goose 10:14 Thu Dec 1
Re: New York at Christmas
No you definitely shouldn’t take too much from a website that’s sole purpose is to provide statistics for big companies.

Instead let’s list Christmas films & quote song lyrics.

You’ve chosen an odd hill to die upon.

You do know Loudon Wainwright is American and they are his words, right?
